At Merrill Research, we’ve been shaping industries and products for decades. From the earliest handheld devices to the latest advances in AI and body language analysis, our work has left an indelible mark on the market research landscape since 1986. If you’ve ever used an inkjet or laser printer, smartphone, computer, wearable, or medical device, there’s a good chance we played a role in its development.
Industry Firsts That Define Us
One of our proudest moments? Helping to design the iconic Palm Pilot. Early form factor research, using wooden blocks to determine the ideal size, led to the creation of a device that fit perfectly in a jacket pocket. This small innovation changed the future of mobile technology.
Here are some other milestones that have made us industry leaders:
Innovators of Online Survey Tools. As founding investors in MarketTools, the creators of Zoomerang™—a groundbreaking online survey platform—we helped bring online survey market research to the forefront in 1997. Along with WPP, General Mills, and Procter & Gamble, we raised $60 million to launch MarketTools, which was eventually acquired by SurveyMonkey in 2011.
Shaping Technology Across Categories. From semiconductors to supercomputers and everything in between, our insights have helped drive the success of countless products across multiple industries, some related and intertwined, others not.
For example, we helped one company introduce the first printer with an ink tank on the side of it—replacing the nuisance of cartridges—and this created the SuperTank category for inkjet printers.
Groundbreaking Design Engineer Global Panel. We powered EEIntelligence, the first-ever global panel of design engineers for EE Times, offering unparalleled insights into the world of technology design and development. In addition, we’ve developed panels in the wine, travel, and telecommunications industries.
Seminal Use of Body Language in Research. More recently, we’ve integrated body language analysis into our qualitative research. Understanding nonverbal cues has taken our insights to new heights, revealing truths that go beyond words.
Looking Ahead: AI and Body Language in Qualitative and Quantitative Research. We’re always evolving. Now, we are integrating artificial intelligence and body language analysis into our qualitative research—making us the only research firm to offer this unique combination of cutting-edge skills. This forward-thinking approach helps our clients uncover deeper insights and gain a competitive edge in an ever-changing market.
